National Team trials on August 2

The trials for the Finnish National men’s cricket squad will take place on Sunday August 2nd at Kerava National Cricket Ground, starting at 10 am.

Please note that all qualifying players’ performances will be considered before trial selections are made, including the players in the current national squad. The players selected for the NT trials in August will be notified of their selection by the FCA in early July 2015.

Simon Rodgerson spin-bowling mentor

The Finnish National Team organisation has been strengthened again this week by the appointment of Simon Rodgerson as the new spin-bowling mentor. Simon has a long history of cricket in Finland and also represented the country honourably from 2003-2006.

Simon is a welcome addition to the expanding volunteer coaching team and brings with him a wealth of experience in his field, which will be a great asset for the Finnish spinners.

Cricket Finland is confident that Simon will help the Finnish NT in both its short- and long-term drive for on-field excellence.

On his appointment Simon commented: 'I’m very happy to be involved and it’s a pleasure to be able to put something back in to the development of Finnish cricket. I will assist the spinners whereever I can.'

Nicky Kamal new Captain of the Finnish Men's Team

After a weekend of training at Kuortane Olympic Training Center , a new-look Finnish National Team has been unveiled. Wicketkeeper-cum-captain Jonathan Scamans resigned the captaincy due to personal reasons in February and Zahidullah 'Nicky' Kamal has now been appointed captain in his stead.

'It's a great pleasure and an honour to represent my country not just as a cricket player but as the team captain. I hope I can lead the team with honour and set an example for my teammates,' Nicky Kamal said after he was appointed.

'Being able to train at Kuortane is great. Not only are the facilities excellent for improving our skills, but spending time together also allows us to bond as individuals and as a team. The programme during the training camp last weekend was action-packed but very rewarding.'

Nicky says he enjoyed the training: 'It has given me a chance to try my wings as team leader. One thing I've worked on is giving and getting feedback and trying to be constructive.'

National Team at Kuortane

This weekeend the Finnish National Team is spending at Kuortane Sport Resort. Saturday morning began with a fitness test : fitness coach Simon Dannapfel put the team through the Yo-Yo IETL1 intermittent endurance test. After fitness, fielding and batting drills in the afternoon it was on to work on shot grooving with the bowling machine for Finland's NT players. In the evening there was video analysis of the results.

National Team Captain in Ice Bucket Challenge

Jonathan Scamans, captain of the Finnish National Cricket Team, accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge he received from a friend and passed the challenge on to a couple of other guys on the National Team - and kindly gave Cricket Finland permission to share the video, which was originally shared on Facebook only with his friends.

Finnish Team and Touring Squads for Finnish Cricket Week

Tomorrow, June 6th, is the beginning of Finnish Cricket Week, a week-long celebration of cricket in Finland.

We've now posted the team selections of the Finnish National Team for Finland's three matches during the festival as well as the squads of the touring parties, i.e. MCC and Denmark's U19 Team, and the Chairman's XI. You will find all the details on the Games and Teams page.

National Team Selection News

In May 2014, after the Pepsi ICC Europe Division 3 tourmanet in La Manga, Spain, the trials held at Kerava NCG in September 2013 and analysis of performances since then, the FCA has selected a new National Squad in advance of Finland's games during Finnish Cricket Week.

Vice captain Jonathan Scamans has been promoted to captain of the National Team.
