LADIES CRICKET
If cricket in Finland seems an odd phenomenon,
howzat the combination women, cricket and Finland?
This latest development on the Finnish cricket scene
has clearly been in the making for several years. Women
have long been involved as social members, tea-ladies
or frustrated wives /girlfriends. To mark the new millennium
a group of women decided to join the fun for real. From
there the success story enfolds.
In spring 2001 the FCA organised a ten session introductory
course for women. The first ever women's game in Finland
was played on the European Cricket Day, 20th May 2001.
More organised games followed throughout the summer,
including even the International Six-a-Side tournament
hosted by SKK.
After an enthusiastic and spirited first season, the
women decided to join SKK, forming its "babe-wing".
2002 sees regular training, challenging men's teams
for games, the first women's international tour to Sweden.
